Chemo fights back and a welcome break - SEPTEMBER 2022

So, round 7 took a little longer than planned. My platelets didn’t recover after number 6 so we had to delay. Apparently, I am technically too old for this chemo, as an adult (I’ve tried to explain I’m not really a proper adult but supposedly 26 does count) my platelets don’t bounce back as they do in younger people so I’ve done well to manage 6 rounds without running into this particular problem. Going forwards, the dosage will be reduced slightly in the hope that my body will recover in time between rounds.

On the plus the side, the delay meant that I went the longest I have without chemo drugs in my system since the 1st of June and the break was very much appreciated. I felt more like myself than I had in months and even managed to get to London for the evening, I saw some of my favourite people and the fam got to join me for the VIP experience at Lords, there are some perks at least, and prime seats at sporting events is one I’m happy to take.

Round 7 went ahead then without any drama, but unfortunately the platelets once again were not happy. I needed 3 blood transfusions and even with the help of those very kind donors we had to delay again. It’s hard to explain that disappointment, the dragging out of something that already feels like it’s taken so much time from me. But I’m back in Notts again now and plugged in for the penultimate round of this batch and crossing my fingers the next one will come around on time and I can tick ‘chemo pt.1’ off asap.
